Speak Out for Arizona’s Wildlife!

Governor Ducey will soon appoint a new member to the Arizona Game & Fish Commission, which establishes policies for managing wildlife. We believe that two of the recommended candidates may not act in the best interests of our state’s wildlife.

In 2010, the Arizona Legislature created a special-interests-controlled board that interviews and recommends candidates to Commission. The governor is limited from selecting only “board-endorsed” candidates.

The Board interviewed four candidates on November 9th which are posted on ADLA’s YouTube channel: Robert Rimsza, Marsha Sue, Justine McClune, and Jim O’Haco. The Board voted to submit names of all interviewed candidates to the governor for consideration. The two candidates below are of special concern.

Justine McCune is a hunter who denounced animal and environmental protection organizations in her interview. She stated, “These groups are highly motivated fundraising machines and they’re doing their dirty work in our state and the states surrounding ours.”

Jim O’Haco is a cattle rancher who has commented and written articles opposing the reintroduction of endangered Mexican gray wolves in Arizona. In one article he stated, “I don’t know why they think they need them. The wolf was gotten rid of years ago for a purpose. Anyway, it’s going to be a battle. I can see it coming.”

You can read additional quotes and background information on these two candidates here.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Please email or call Governor Ducey at 602-542-4331 and politely ask him not to appoint Justine McCune or Jim O’Haco to the Arizona Game & Fish Commission. Let him know that we need commissioners who will advocate for wildlife instead of special interests.
